Made a start!

I'm on the third of the back pieces now. I'm finding this a very quick knit, although I'm sure I won't be saying that once I get to all the detailing! I haven't used Cathay before and I've had a few panics over my tension. Having laid out the pieces I've done so far though, they are 'near enough' (!) the specified measurements, so fingers crossed it will be ok!

I'm thinking about minimising my colour choice. Do you think if the body was green and all the detailing was black that it would work? I want to try and strike a balance between having a spectacular jacket and something I don't feel uncomfortably over dressed in!

Listed

Just a quick note to say this KAL is now listed on the 2006 Knitalongs page!

If anyone knows of any other places we could be linked from, please let me know.

Bit more done

No pictures yet because I want to tidy it up a bit, and I think that adding the buttons will help. Last night I did the collar cabling, which I found very hard on just 4 stitches! Today I've sewn it on and it's ok but a bit untidy. I think when the buttons are sewn onto the ends it will look tons better, and I'm wondering if anyone has buttons yet? I'm just off to have a search and see what's available online.

Having looked at Katie's I can see just how much too big mine is, but I won't moan. My fault after all and it's probably still wearable. I even think I *might* make this again in the smaller size (I know, gone mad!) as I love the pattern so much. The more I do, the cleverer I think it is :D

body done

all the main pieces of mine are done and sewn together. just the decorations to go!

it's a bit big but a re-block should fix it.

I-Cord

Here's my first attempt at a Cathay i-cord using my new Embellish Knit. I think it's not bad! There is a rather lumpy bit near the start but I might be able to get rid of that with practice and if not I can always trim off the first couple of inches. Beats hours huddled over my dpns anyway!

I know some people have tried the Prym/Inox version of this and it hasn't liked Cathay, so if you're looking for an i-cord mill I guess the Embellish Knit is a better buy for Sgt P.

Evidence of knitting!

I've completed the first piece of the jacket, the centre back panel :-)

This was fairly quick to do, I'm planning on fitting in the pieces between my other WIPs. Slowly but surely :-)

Does anyone else not like the M1s at this tension? I knit into the back loop on both sides otherwise you get a huge hole (learnt that from SnB). You can still see somewhat of a hole. I might revolt and use KFB :-D

ETA - the yarn is black Cathay, I know it looks greyish (and quite a nice gunmetal grey LOL) but this was taken with camera flash as there wasn't enough natural light by the time I got to taking photos :-)

hello, newbie

hello! i just joined the KAL and i think i might need the moral support. this jacket is already giving me a headache! i've just ripped all the seams from the back panel out because i sewed them together wrong, and i think it'll be a bit on the large size on me. just to clarify i've sewn it together correctly this time: the side panels should not match up to the top of the centre panel, should they, so that when you set in the sleeves they fit half onto the side panels and half onto the centre panel? that's horribly described but i hope someone understands me.

i'm using yarn from my stash: a tweedy khaki green wool with brown and gold accents. here's a mockup, i hope you don't mind me using your tracing joanne:

hopefully i'll get some pics up soon when it resembles more a jacket and less a lumpy pile of yarn.

happy knitting all!

An opinion, please...

These two pictures are close in colour, only the bottoms of the sleeves are different. Which one do you think looks better? Thanks, ladies. My yarn is ordered. I can't wait to get started.

Decision 3/4 made!

I can't remember the last time it was this difficult to make a colour decision, but I'm almost there. I've ordered black as the main colour, red for some braiding... and teal. I'll use the teal for, either the front cording or plackets. I'm wondering how it would look, if there is enough contrast, if I made the plackets with teal, and the cording with duck egg blue. What do you think? I hope the yarn comes soon. I'm anxious to get started.

In the meantime, I'm knitting cupcakes from the One Skein book! It's for a class I'm teaching, and they are a lot of fun, and addictive.

Slowly but surely

Might as well post a pic here as well, but I don't expect you to comment everywhere, lol.
