R.I.P. Sgt. Pepper

I've made the decision not to continue my Sgt. Pepper jacket. I just don't like the way it's turning out in this yarn, so I've ripped out the sleeve, put the yarn in a bag and will make something different with it someday. It's time to let it languish in the stash for a while.

In the meantime, I'm going to refocus on other projects that I want to finish up. And.... a friend and I have decided to make sweaters with David Gilmour's (Pink Floyd) face on the front. It'll be my whimsical knitting for a while. I have yet to finish the design, so it's destined for future knitting.

Will I make Sgt. Pepper? Maybe. But for now, I'm just going to take a long break from it. Let it be.

It's been fun to 'meet' you and I'll be checking back on the blog to see your progress.

All the best from Colorado.... Joanne

Picture of sleeve-in-progress

Hi again...

Rather than waiting until the weekend, I decided to take a picture of the sleeve during my lunch break at work. The sides and top are curled, but you can get the idea. I'm almost at the 17" mark. I'm making my sleeve just a wee bit shorter than the pattern calls for.

I still haven't decided whether I should just carry on or rip out the sleeve and start again on larger needles. The fabric is just so limp, but maybe it'll be alright. My current thinking is to just keep going and hope for the best.

I'm knitting with my new Options needles from Knit Picks. Have you tried them? I really like them... especially the points, which are almost like weapons! I'm looking forward to giving them a try on a lace project.

I hope you all have a good weekend. I can't wait until I can go home and start knitting!

What to do, what to do....

I've started knitting! Finally. I decided to start with the sleeve.

Right now I'm getting 20 stitches in 4 inches, instead of 18 as called for in the pattern. The row gauge is right on the mark.

I'd hate to go up a needle size or two to achieve the gauge as the fabric of the sleeve is already quite limp.

Did any of you have this problem? If so, what did you do about it? Maybe blocking will help? Maybe the jacket will stretch when finished? Maybe I need to become anorexic?

Any comments, ideas, suggestions ... anything, would be appreciated. I'm using Cathay and I really like this yarn, even though it does split easily.

By the way.. thanks for your earlier input. I've decided to make this colourway:

I'll post a picture of my knitting on the weekend.
