More yarn musings

I bet you're glad you let me in aren't you?! Just picture Mavis from Corrie saying 'ooh, I don't really know...' and you've got me at the moment!

Anyway, here's another thought to throw out. I agree with what Anna says about the it being the detail and the yarn that really makes this jacket. I am in love with Cathay but can't pull enough colours out of the range that I feel happy with. So, I wondered about doing something quite different and knitting it entirely in one colour. Then ALL the focus is on the shapes and forms and not on where the brightest bits of colour are. I love shade 08, or maybe even 07. (I don't know what they look like on other monitors but 'in the flesh' they are duck egg and teal).

I have almost (almost!) discounted the DB Merino and other yarns like it, as I think (even if I end up with an acyrlic) this piece needs a 'silky' yarn, not a 'woolly' one.

It's all part of the fun - your 'mithering' included :)

I can see what you mean about the merino not being silky therefore not quite right. I think it would still be a nice garment, just not 'as' nice.

Wasn't the Sharpe one all one colour in the photo of SeanBean? I don't have the pic to hand but I seem to remember it as such. So that's alright then :)

I looked at my duck egg and the colour said 12013, but I'm sure that's it. It would make a very light jacket, maybe the teal would be safer?

Hang on! I've got the wrong colour, lol. I bought a ball of what I thought was duck egg but is obviously not. I have shade 13 but should have got 08?

I will have a very colourful Sgt. Pepper, haha! Mine's a lot more greeny than the one I should have got. It's only one ball, I can buy another.

Ah, no... I think the duck egg very likely IS 13 then. On my colour card I would call it green but hey... The 08 I'm looking at is more of a grey/blue/green (to me anyway).

You're right though, they are both light colours.

I think Sharpe's jacket is black and dark green... and dirt coloured for most episodes!

You know what completely stunning idea my friend had though? She said go to some shops and try a few things on in vaguely the same shapes and colours and see what you think.

Genuis! Lol!

Yes shade 13 is what I ordered too, was having a paic there! Not that the yarn has turned up yet, hohum. Will be chasing them up tomorrow I think.

Sharpe's jacket is dark green with black braiding, not that I was paying close attention the other night, you understand :-D

Confused!!

I looked on one site and it says 08 is duck egg, I have 013. Anna just says duck egg, she didn't say a no. DOH!

I looked on the Angel Yarns shade card and I think 7 and 8 are both nice for block coloured jackets from that card. 7 is greenish? 8 is teal. Although I'm losing the will to live, bwahaha!

It gets worse! I'd say 7 is teal, 8 is duck egg and 13 is pale green.

You'll have gathered my monitor isn't the greatest but from the real life colour card I'd say Anna used 8.

Could be wrong though!

Is there any way to contact her for a definitive answer?

See new posting for yarn news! I can't work out the colours of Cathay either, the 13 I got looks very duck-egg to me. Don't tell me I need another ball to see which one I like best! LOL!

You know i think get Knitted have the wrong numbers of some of their Cathay shades. 7 and 8 look like they have been swapped.

OK, Kangaroo's site is very helpful - numbers and names. Duck egg is no. 8 and 13 is "mint". I still think 13 is better!

I agree. I'm sticking with mint, which I think should be called duck egg anyway :)
