Yarn dilemma

Hmm, apparantly, bottle green is the most unfashionable, rubbish colour ever! I am really struggling to find any DK yarn that comes in a nice dark green plus black and dark grey (I was going to use black for both the red and teal/grey bits). The best I've found so far is Sirdar Country Style . I'm sure it's a nice enough yarn but it doesn't seem very 'special'. So, now I'm wondering whether to go back to the Cathay and just pick different shades. I know I definitely don't want to use the red and white but I'd be very happy with black for the body and perhaps the teal-ish colour for the i-cord. I also quite like 06,16,18 and 19 so I might be able to find four colours overall.

I was rather sold on the whole Sharpe thing though! I will look a bit more and continue mulling things over.

Bottle green was my primary school uniform colour :)

I replied to your query on AY about the shade 18, and it looks indigo to me.

Shame you can't find any colours you love. I like Sirdar Country Style a lot, have 10 balls each in lichen and a lilac shade that I got ages ago in a sale. Don't know what to do with them! I think it's lovely yarn but I know you wanted the silk content. I don't know whether the jacket would be as 'special' in it, that's a hard one.

Hope you find something you are really happy with as this will really be a labour of love and it needs to be something you will wear with pride. The Sharpe idea is a great one and you don't need to get the yarn for a bit yet, fingers crossed for a solution!

I just remembered. I saw Elizabeth Lavold's Silky Wool as a sub for Cathay (think that might be spelled wrong) but I don't know where in UK you could find it.

Will look into the Silky Wool - thanks. I really wish I had a decent LYS! I went into cheapo Boyes today just on the offchance but they didn't have anything inspiring. I will pop into the 'proper' LYS on Monday (no go during school holidays!) and see if anything there grabs me. The owner is an unfortunate combination of overbearing manner and yarn-ignorance, so I don't know how I'll get on, lol!

Ooops - commenting at the same time! I have just turned the brightness RIGHT up on my mointor and it looks like 506 in the DB merino is a sort of dusty green? I presume 300 is black and 301 looks like a decent grey...hmm! (I won't mention that when I glanced at it before there were six different 'blacks'!

I might order some shade cards from Kangeroo.

Thanks for your help!

I think your monitor is a bit tired ;) Aren't we all?

No problem, we don't want to lose you :)

Oooh, so it is! Very promising! I have ordered shade cards for DB Cathay, Merino DK and Cotton Cashmere.

You won't lose me! I'm a process knitter really and would prefer to make it 'just because', even in the 'wrong' shades :)

I was going to suggest Merino DK yesterday but wasn't sure if it was the right gauge (I'm not the greatest person at calculating stuff LOL). The dark green is very promising in that!
